Nero was Roman Emperor from 54-68 AD. He grew up raised only by his mother Agrippina, poor and exiled. But when Agrippina married her uncle the Emperor Claudius, Nero was made the next in line for the throne, even ahead of Claudius's own son. In 54, Agrippina murdered Claudius and Nero was made Emperor at the age of 17. Agrippina was a strong figure during the first few months of Nero's reign but she was banished to a home away from Nero's palace when Nero began to resent her power. Not long after she was murdered by cohorts of Nero.
