One day the love god Eros shot a flurry of arrows in response to taunts from Apollo, the god of prophecy. The first of the arrows struck Apollo and made him fall in love with Daphne. But the second one was lead tipped and caused Daphne to become even more indifferent than she had already been to any lover. Apollo pursued her relentlessly until, in desperation, she turned herself into a laurel tree.
