Waterhouse used many beautiful models to create the images of his femme fatales. Family members such as wife Esther, sister Jessica, and step-sister Mary were used in some of his lesser known paintings, but little is known about the models he used most frequently. Not even a name would be given to his favorite model if it weren't for the finding of a pensil sketch of 1905's "Lamia" that had "Miss Muriel Foster" written on the back. This page contains pictures that single out specific models in different paintings. If you want to read more about the John William Waterhouse models, there is an interesting article at ArtMagick.com.
